Building from a bill of materials

Organizely's Manufacturing section gives you a read-only, costed view of every assembly you build, so production and floor teams can review a recipe and start a build without touching the catalog. Find it at Manufacturing → Bill of Materials.
This area requires Raw-Material Tracking (the Pro plan). Sidebar access can also be controlled per role or per user through the "Manufacturing" permission, so workers can be granted access when they need to build.

What an assembly is

An assembly is any product variant that has a bill of materials: the list of components (parts or materials) it is built from, each with a "qty per" finished unit. A component that is itself an assembly is a subassembly, and it expands inline as a multi-tier, indented recipe.

The Bill of Materials index

The index at Manufacturing → Bill of Materials lists every assembly in one place. For each row you see:
  • The assembly (the finished product variant).
  • Its component count.
  • The rolled-up material cost.
  • The buildable quantity: how many finished units you can build right now from on-hand components.
The index is read-only. It is a place to scan what you make and how ready each item is to build. To change what an assembly is built from, edit its recipe in the Catalog (see Editing a recipe below).

Opening an assembly

Click any row to open that assembly's detail page, a read-only, costed view of the bill of materials with everything you need to plan a build.
    Review the components and their "qty per" finished unit, including any subassemblies expanded inline.
    Check the costed rollup: per-component unit and extended cost, plus the assembly's total material cost.
    Use the location selector to switch stores. Cost and buildable are calculated per location, so the numbers reflect the components on hand at the location you pick.
    Read the buildable figure and its limiting (bottleneck) component to see what caps your run.
When a component is missing a unit cost, the rollup flags the material cost as estimated, so you know the total is incomplete.

Building units

The assembly detail page carries a Build action. It is the Manufacturing entry point into the same build flow you get in the Catalog.
    Click Build on the assembly.
    Enter how many units you want to build.
    Simulate or plan the build to see the material-availability check before you commit.
    Commit the build. Building consumes the component stock and adds the finished assembly to inventory.

Planned Demand card

When open work orders that are set to consume components plan to use this variant, the assembly page shows a Planned Demand card. It tells you how many units of the variant those work orders plan to consume at a location, with links to each contributing work order.
Planned Demand is advisory: it is approximate planned demand, not a hold. Nothing is reserved by it, so treat it as a heads-up for what is queued rather than a guaranteed allocation.

Production stats card

The assembly page also rolls up the completed work orders for the product into a Production stats card. It reports how many work orders and units were built, average and median cycle time, total labor time, and average labor time and labor cost per unit. Standalone work orders (those with a free-text title and no product link) are excluded from these stats by construction, so the numbers reflect only production of this assembly.

Editing a recipe

The Manufacturing pages are for reviewing and building. Editing a bill of materials lives in the Catalog, on a variant's Materials tab. That tab is where you define and cost the components a variant is built from, add or remove component lines, manage untracked materials, and set the assembly's labor cost per unit. Changes you make there flow through to what you see and build here in Manufacturing.
