Workstations

Workstations

Workstations let you organize production below the store-location level, so work orders and machines can be tied to a specific bench, cell, or line inside a warehouse. This page explains what a workstation is, who can manage them, and how the personal "My default" star differs from a location's default.
Workstations are part of Manufacturing, which requires the Raw-Material Tracking entitlement (available on the Pro and Scale plans). The sidebar entry can also be controlled per role or user through the "Manufacturing" permission, so workers who need to be assigned work can be granted access.

What a workstation is

A workstation is an organizational subdivision of a single store location: a bench, cell, or line within a warehouse. It gives you a way to organize production below the location level.
  • Each workstation belongs to exactly one store location (it is a per-location subdivision).
  • Work orders and machines can each be assigned a workstation.
  • A workstation can be set from the New Work Order form, from work-order templates, and from a per-user default.
You manage workstations at Manufacturing → Workstations.

Who can do what

  • Managers and admins can create, edit, set a location's default workstation, and archive workstations.
  • Workers see the workstation list read-only. They can still set their own personal default (see below).

Create and manage workstations

Managers and admins manage the full list from Manufacturing → Workstations.

Create a workstation

    Go to Manufacturing → Workstations.
Add a new workstation and give it a name.
Assign it to the store location it belongs to.
Save. The workstation becomes available in the workstation pickers for that location.

Edit a workstation

Open the workstation from the list.
    Update its details.
    Save your changes.

Set a location's default workstation

Each location can have one default workstation, shown with a "Default" badge.
Find the workstation you want as the default for its location.
Set it as that location's default.
The location default is separate from the personal "My default" star. The "Default" badge is set by managers and admins and applies to everyone at that location; the "My default" star is set by each individual for themselves.

Archive a workstation

Workstations are archive-only. There is no hard delete.
Open or select the workstation you no longer use.
    Archive it.
An archived workstation is hidden from the pickers, but it is kept so historical work orders that reference it keep resolving correctly.

Your personal default (the "My default" star)

The Workstations page also carries a self-service "My default" star on each workstation. Every team member, including workers, can mark their own preferred workstation.
  • You can mark at most one workstation per store location as your default.
  • Your personal default only prefills the workstation field on the manual New Work Order form, so you do not have to pick your usual station every time.
  • It never affects make-to-order auto-creation.
To set your default:
    Go to Manufacturing → Workstations.
Find the workstation you want as your default for a given location.
    Select its "My default" star.
The personal "My default" star (per user) is distinct from the manager-only per-location "Default" badge. Starring a workstation only changes what your own New Work Order form prefills; it does not change the location default for anyone else.

How defaults apply to work orders

  • Manual work orders: When you open the New Work Order form, the workstation field is prefilled from your personal "My default" star for the relevant location (if you have set one). You can change it before saving.
  • Make-to-order (auto-created) work orders: Work orders created automatically from a sale route to the location's own default workstation (the one with the "Default" badge), not to any individual's personal default. If that location has no default workstation set, the work order is simply created without one, so auto-creation is never blocked.
